Writing
Posts about the results: what each one found, what it means, and how it was checked, written for readers outside mathematics. Grouped by kind: essays, explainers, notes, and looks back at a stretch of work.
essays
Argued at length.- I called my evidence "certificates." An OEIS editor asked what they proved.
The example, what the files did and did not prove, and the checklist I now use for anything I publish.
Sep 26, 2026 - The record I keep of errors my checks caught, and two that changed how I work
What the record is and why I call it an own-goal ledger, two errors told in full (a false alarm that looked like a disproof, and two programs that agreed on a wrong count), and the workshop paper built from the record.
Sep 11, 2026· 2 versions - How results here get checked, and what a full recheck after an AI model switch found
The levels of checking every result goes through before it appears here, and what happened when I redid all the work from the days my AI sessions had been switched to a different model without my knowledge.

explainers
Written to make one idea clear.- What a long-standing error in a math database means for anyone who copies reference values
For analysts who copy values from reference tables: how a number with a digit missing sat in an OEIS entry for years, how a Claude agent spotted it, how it was confirmed and fixed, and two cheap checks that catch this kind of error.
Oct 24, 2026· 10 min - Why checking a math conjecture on every case up to a size is not a proof
For readers who see headlines about computers and AI "solving" math problems: what a check of every case up to a size shows and does not show, using an Erdős conjecture about trees as the example.
Oct 24, 2026 - Before my AI pipeline could hunt for new shapes, it had to rebuild a known one
How a recently named solid became the entrance test for an AI-built search program, the draft rule the test caught, and how a reviewer's pointer turned up the same shape in a survey from 2016. Accepted as a poster at a NeurIPS workshop (MATH-AI); free copy on Zenodo.
Oct 4, 2026· 12 min - Extending an expert's tables for unsolved take-away games in a way he could check himself
In eight of the games no new rare values appeared, which fits with those games eventually repeating. In the other four, new heap sizes with rare values turned up past the old limits (in one of them, just one). Achim Flammenkamp, who keeps the tables, reran parts of the work and has since gone further himself.
Jul 16, 2026· 3 versions - Counting dependency charts where each task depends on at most two or three others, and a pattern in the counts that someone else later proved
The same structure turns up in project planning and in machine learning. This post shows how the counts were computed and checked, which parts are proved, and a pattern in the counts that I found by computer and another contributor later proved.
Jul 5, 2026 - Counting the shapes built from two space-filling solids, including one with no earlier counts
Space-filling means copies fit together with no gaps, like bricks. For the sphenoid cell I found no description in print of how its copies fit, so I worked it out and showed it was the only arrangement of its type before counting. Both sets of counts are in the OEIS.

retrospectives
Looking back at a stretch of work.- A new best-known dominating set for the twelfth Fibonacci cube, and a month-long solver run that returned no answer
The network is called the twelfth Fibonacci cube, and the new set is now the best known, listed in the OEIS. A month-long solver run that tried to raise the lower end of the known range for the true minimum was stopped before it answered, so the range is unchanged.

notes
A short note on one observation.- How I found and fixed a number that was wrong in the OEIS for over a decade
Mathematicians copy values from the OEIS rather than recompute them, so a wrong value there can sit unnoticed for years. One had a dropped digit for over a decade. How an AI agent spotted it, how it was confirmed, and how it was fixed.
